Kyaungtong (Kengtung)

According to legend Kengtung is founded by hermit , his name was Thongkalasi, he lived in the cave. The people of the hill came to him to ask the land to built the city. Most of the land were covered by water. He raised his magic stuff and pointed at the water, it’s the small lake which remain in these day , and dry land which people built the city.

First Kalasi to built the pagoda, which will protect the city. They named it Watsomkam, the city grow rounded , they bear the hermit name, the world city of town, Kengtung. The Buddha of Kengtung watches over the capital , center of the golden triangle. The monestries in Kengtung reflect archaistic style dominant in Lao and Thailand.

Kyaingtong, lies 456 km northeast of Taunggyi, in the eastern most part of Shan state near the Chinese and Thai Boarder, is an old colonial town and the centre for the Wa, Shan, Akha, Anh and Akhu and Lahu hill tribes. The town is surrounded by the beautiful forest and mountains and offers travelers a chance to visit the remote villages of this peaceful trading town. Highlights Yanke-Gone Pottery village, can also arrange for Trekking to nearby tribal villages, morning market to meet the local hill tribes.

To travel through remote regions is still new and full of adventure by foot, ox cart, motor bike, pick-up truck, bicycle , river boat even sedan chairs. Many of these locations , transportation and accommodation may be less than ideal , so travelers should bring along a spirit of exploration when visiting these paces.
 
Journey by foot from Pindaya up through the countryside & villages of Danu & Pa-O tribes reaching Yasagyi at 6020 feet. Overnight accommodation at the Yasagyi Monestry with a pre-dawn trek to the 7030 foot, Yasagyi summit of sunrise. Returning to Pindaya through farm fielf and meadowlands.
 

Southern Chin Hills, explore the hill villages of the Myo ( Khami) and Thet tribes reached by river boat from Mrauk-U. This is still a remote destination for the true explorer.

Putao & Trekking in the Northern frontier; a rare opportunity to explore the beautiful northern frontier;s breathtaking scenery, flora and fauna and to visist the villages of the Jinphaw , Rawang, Lisu, Tai, and Kamati hill tribes. Enthusiasts of nature will be richly rewarded.
